Abstract
"Austral English" means all the new words and all the new uses of old words that have been added to the English language by reason of the fact that those who speak English have taken up their residence in Australia and New Zealand. E.E. Morris, Austral English, (1898), p. xi. For practical purposes, Australia may be said to have been settled by England from 1788, and New Zealand from 1835.
